Job Satisfaction of Fishery Extension Officer, West Bengal: A study in Purulia District
Abstract
Job satisfaction is very essential to employees to perform their duties effectively and efficiently. A person with higher level of Job Satisfaction, perform their duties effectively than the employees who has less job satisfaction or high job dissatisfaction. So office workers job satisfaction is very important because the employees are the decision makers, in the organization and direct the organization in to a success. By studying factors affecting the job satisfaction can suggest policies or practices that can be used to enhance the employee job satisfaction and organizational performance. The aim of this study was to explore the level of job satisfaction among extension officers of Department of Fisheries, Purulia District, West Bengal. This is a descriptive cross sectional study. This study follows the research design of deductive approach. It is quantitative study. Since this is a case study the author considers the whole population of extension officers (N=20) in the Department of Fisheries, Purulia District. The total population of twenty extension officers was participated in this study, of which 80% were males and 20% were female. From the ensuing results it can therefore be found that the majority of the workforce was within medium age group (i.e. between the age group 31 to 40 years). Fifty percent of the population were belongs to the service period of 10 years or less than 10 years. Majority of the extension officers were belongs to the educational level of Master of Fishery Sciences categories. The result of this study indicates that the Extension Officers, who are now working at the block level, are moderately or somewhat satisfied. Analysis indicates that transfer and posting, work and working environment and promotion and recognition are significant predictor of Job Satisfaction except the other two variables-salaries and training and career planning. This study also showed that there are some other factors which have a strong significant relationship with the overall job satisfaction of fisheries block level extension officers.Practically, the result of this study provides a snapshot picture of the satisfaction level of Fishery Extension Officer working at the block level of Purulia District and may assist policy formulation and implementation to enhance their job satisfaction which ultimately improves service delivery.
